Two Khasi-Pnar girls from East Jaintia Hills district, Meghalaya, aged 15 and 18, were rescued from a suspected human trafficking operation in Delhi-Haryana through a coordinated effort by the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Delhi Unit and the Special Police Unit for North East Region (SPUNER). The victims were reportedly lured to Delhi by an acquaintance under the pretense of domestic helper jobs, without parental knowledge. Once in Delhi, they were taken to a spa in Haryana and subjected to exploitation. The situation was uncovered when the girls contacted their families, prompting them to alert KSU. The union acted quickly, collaborating with SPUNER to conduct a rescue operation in Haryana, successfully tracing and rescuing the girls from the trafficking network. KSU President Marbiang Khongwir emphasized the increasing dangers young individuals face when seeking employment away from home and urged vigilance against fraudulent job offers. Officials are making arrangements for counseling and the safe return of the victims to their families, with assistance from Kyrmen Shylla regarding travel arrangements.
