The Ri-Bhoi Tourism and Environmental Development Forum will once again host the Ñiangtaser Festival —a cultural celebration centered around the insect found in the Ri-Bhoi region, which is also popularly known as the “World Cup insect”. Renowned for emerging every four years, its appearance of the insect coincides with the FIFA World Cup soccer event, leading to its unique nickname. Ri-Bhoi Tourism and Environmental Development chairman, Plielad Tiewsoh, has announced that the festival would be organised in collaboration with the Dorbar Shnong of Saiden. Speaking to the media, Tiewsoh informed that the festival will be held on April 8 and 9, 2026 at Ïewsier, a location situated near the Nongkhyllem forest area.
He further said that the two-day festival would feature a variety of entertaining and cultural activities for visitors, including traditional dance and folk song competitions, with participants expected from different regions. A fashion show competition will also be conducted during the event. In addition to these attractions, the Forum has also organized a two-day football tournament to be held on April 8 and 9 at Saiden Playground. On the final day, a fishing competition will take place at the Ïewsier river, where winners will be awarded cash prizes. The Forum, through its chairman, has extended an open invitation to the public to attend and witness the festival, assuring that there will be a wide range of engaging activities for all visitors over the two days.
