Indus Towers Ltd., one of India’s largest telecom infrastructure providers, has strengthened school sanitation infrastructure in Meghalaya by inaugurating girls’ washroom facilities across 11 government schools in Ri-Bhoi district under its flagship CSR initiative Pragati. The facilities were formally inaugurated at Nehru Memorial Higher Secondary School, with Andrew L. Myrthong, BDO of Umsning C&RD Block and in-charge Assistant Commissioner of Ri-Bhoi, attending the ceremony. The event was also live-cast to six other schools where the new facilities have been developed. Addressing the gathering, Myrthong said providing proper sanitation infrastructure in schools is critical for ensuring a safe and comfortable learning environment for students, particularly girls. “Initiatives like these strengthen the basic infrastructure of our education system and support the overall wellbeing of students. We appreciate the contribution made by Indus Towers and its partners in supporting schools in the region,” he said.
Rajender Gurung, Circle CEO – NESA, Indus Towers Ltd., said access to safe and hygienic sanitation facilities is essential for the dignity, health and confidence of young girls. He noted that the Pragati initiative reflects the company’s commitment to addressing infrastructure gaps that affect girls’ education and wellbeing in underserved regions.
In Shillong, corporate social responsibility investments by large telecom infrastructure firms are increasingly contributing to community development in Meghalaya. Stakeholders note that initiatives like these not only strengthen educational infrastructure but also reinforce the presence and social engagement of major companies in the Shillong market, reflecting a broader trend of private sector participation in regional development.
