In February 2026, the Northeastern Council (NEC) allocated Rs 67.41 crore to bolster developmental initiatives in the Northeastern Region (NER) and to support various regional and implementing agencies. This funding underscores NEC’s ongoing dedication to enhancing development across the NER through strategic investments in diverse sectors such as infrastructure, livelihood generation, agricultural innovation, education, tourism promotion, research, and cultural projects. These efforts aim to foster balanced regional growth.
In addition to state-specific allocations, the NEC also provided Rs 30.07 crore to regional institutions and implementing agencies across the Northeast during the same month. Key project interventions spearheaded by this funding include sustainable agriculture initiatives, the development of entrepreneurship with a focus on AI-based farming, infrastructure enhancements, the establishment of sports facilities, promotion of tourism, and research and innovation projects that seek to improve livelihoods.
Implementation of these projects involves collaboration with prominent institutions including the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong, Northeastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC), Northeast Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation (NEHHDC), and Northeast Region Community Resource Management Society (NERCORMS), along with various regional universities and specialized organizations.
