In a significant operation on March 6, Meghalaya Police’s Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) successfully seized drugs valued at approximately ₹51.13 crore, marking one of the largest narcotics recoveries in the state. The operation occurred during a naka checking at Ratacherra, where a Tata Sumo vehicle, registered as MZ01 M 8625, was intercepted. The vehicle was occupied by two passengers and the driver, leading to a thorough search.

During this investigation, police discovered 19 plastic soap cases containing suspected heroin from a female passenger, weighing a total of 203.7 grams. Additionally, a further search of the vehicle revealed a blue trolley bag belonging to another passenger which contained suspected crystal meth (methamphetamine) weighing 10.145 kg. The individuals arrested include 42-year-old Rebeca Kipgen, a resident near the Indo-Myanmar border, and 34-year-old Lal Thawnthang from Mizoram.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the arrested individuals may be associated with a larger interstate and cross-border drug trafficking syndicate. The total estimated value of the seized drugs, indicated as ₹51,13,24,000, positions this operation as the highest-value recovery executed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act by Meghalaya Police thus far. A case has been filed at the ANTF Police Station, and inquiries are ongoing to determine both the forward and backward linkages of the trafficking network.
