Public Health Engineering Minister Marcuise N Marak inspected the New Shillong Water Supply Scheme Project and expressed that the progress of work is satisfactory. “I am very pleased to say that the work is progressing very well and I hope it will be able to complete as per the stipulated time. The civil works completion is at 30 percent and procurement of pipes, pumps, machineries etc is at 90 percent,” Marak said told reporters on Wednesday. The project faced delays due to land issues, which have been resolved. The construction of the dam is expected to start within the next 10 days, with the foundation part almost complete.
“There was little delay because of land issues there, so our officials have gone for negotiations which took almost the whole year and there was issue of dam site also and we have to shift the dam site also for the second selection site which is the present construction site. So, therefore, it took almost a year with regard to negotiations for land etc and construction of road towards dam site is very challenging, it is a steep gorge kind of a location there. So, therefore, the construction of road was also taking some time but now the road has reached till the point, the dam site and construction is in full swing…,” he stated.
