Estimated read time 1 min read

The New Shillong Township Water Supply Scheme is progressing well, with major land disputes cleared and construction of a dam commenced. The dam is expected to be completed by next year, and work on the jackwell pump will begin. The project has received administrative approval for Phase I, with a budget of Rs 538.44 crore under the State Plan. The system will initially supply 33 million litres per day (MLD) with a total future capacity of 70 MLD. Raw water will be piped to a treatment plant near Bri-Heh village, Mawpdang, for processing and distribution. The project integrates a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system and Internet of Things (IoT) technology, allowing for automated monitoring of water flow, pressure, and leak detection from a central command room, ensuring faster issue resolution.
