The Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organizations (CoMSO) has called for a central investigation into threats attributed to ISIS-K against the Garo community, demanding they vacate their land by 2027. In a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, CoMSO chairman Roykupar Synrem requested the immediate involvement of central counterterrorism and intelligence agencies and a thorough investigation into the threat’s origins, intent, and networks. He urged enhanced intelligence operations and a visible security presence in vulnerable regions to ensure public safety. Additionally, Synrem called for the rapid apprehension and prosecution of those involved, insisting on zero tolerance for individuals supporting extremist activities. The memorandum also highlighted the need to reassess border security, monitor and eliminate radical propaganda, and safeguard indigenous rights and land integrity. Synrem emphasized that the emergence of such threats poses significant risks to internal security and communal harmony, underscoring the serious nature of referencing an internationally recognized terrorist organization like ISIS-K.
