The Budget Session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly is scheduled to take place from February 16 to 27. A Business Advisory Committee met to finalize the timetable, which includes 10 working days, ensuring sufficient time for legislative business, as stated by Assembly Speaker Thomas A. Sangma. Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma is set to present the Budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 on February 20. The agenda allocates three days for private members’ business, with the remaining days dedicated to government initiatives. In response to ongoing concerns regarding time constraints during previous sessions, the Speaker indicated that measures have been implemented to facilitate smoother proceedings, including the potential adjustment of sitting hours as needed. For example, the House is expected to remain in session until 3 pm on voting day for supplementary demands, with an option to extend the schedule if necessary. Sangma also ruled out any rumors of postponement, affirming the session will commence as intended. Furthermore, he mentioned that the decision to hold the Budget Session earlier was influenced by advice from the government and the impending Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections.
