On the eve of Republic Day, a police team from East Garo Hills executed a Special Operation in a dense jungle near Dura Bawegre village, resulting in the recovery of significant quantities of weapons and explosives believed to be buried by suspected militants. The operation, which took place around 1 AM on Sunday, involved various officials including the Superintendent of Police and Additional Superintendent of Police, in addition to Officers and the Special Operations Team (SOT) of East Garo Hills DEF in Williamnagar.

The recovered items included an AK-56 rifle, an AK magazine, three pistols with two magazines, a double-barrel country-made rifle with a trigger mechanism, 99 rounds of AK 7.62 live ammunition, live electric detonators, shotgun cartridges, and an improvised explosive device (IED), which was subsequently defused by the Bomb Squad of East Garo Hills District Police.

Official sources indicated that these arms and munitions were likely concealed underground by suspected former members of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) and the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), highlighting ongoing security concerns in the region.
