The BJP’s Meghalaya unit has urged the Border Security Force (BSF) to intensify surveillance and fully seal the Indo-Bangladesh border in the state, citing growing security concerns amid political instability in neighbouring Bangladesh.
The party also called on both the state and central governments to closely monitor the evolving situation across the border.
BJP spokesperson Mariahom Kharkrang expressed concern over what he described as political chaos in Bangladesh, claiming that recent developments there are not favourable to India. He alleged that anti-India elements could exploit the situation to destabilise the country, with the Northeast particularly vulnerable.
“Given the current geopolitical situation, both the state and central governments must act decisively. We cannot allow a return to the past when Bangladesh served as a safe haven for militant groups to rest, regroup and set up camps,” Kharkrang said.
He stressed that sealing the border has become more critical than ever and urged the BSF to strengthen deployment and ensure the frontier remains secure.
Kharkrang’s remarks come in the wake of social media posts and videos by vloggers allegedly showing people crossing into Bangladesh without any apparent resistance. “If these claims are true, they pose a serious threat to national security. The BSF, in coordination with the state police, must take immediate action,” he added.
