Meghalaya Assembly to Take Up Expert Panel Report on Job Reservation in February

The Meghalaya Cabinet convened and decided to present the report of the Expert Committee on the Meghalaya State Job Reservation Policy, 1972, during the forthcoming Budget Session of the Assembly, scheduled tentatively from February 16 to 27. Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma stated post-Cabinet meeting that they reached a consensus to table the report, although its specifics will remain confidential until presented to the Assembly. The Governor has been approached to formalize the session dates. Additionally, the Cabinet endorsed the recipients for the Meghalaya Day Awards 2026, which include the U Tirot Sing Award for Arts and Literature for Dr. Kynpham Sing Nongkynrih, the Pa Togan N. Sangma Award for Social Services for Rev. Fr. Benoy Joseph, and the U Kiang Nangbah Award for Sports and Games for Riiohlang Dhar, with presentations scheduled for Republic Day. Furthermore, the Cabinet approved the implementation of Community Integrated Skill Learning into the curriculum for Classes VI to X to enhance practical education and foster community interaction. Lastly, it sanctioned provisions for private candidates to take the SSLC examination, offering a second opportunity for students who previously dropped out or did not pass the Class X exam.
