National People’s Party (NPP) national president and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Thursday said the party was fully geared up for the upcoming Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections, while calling on party leaders and workers to remain united and disciplined to ensure sustained development across the state. Addressing party workers and supporters at the Betasing party office in Southwest Garo Hills, Sangma highlighted the NPP government’s commitment to grassroots development and inclusive growth in the Garo Hills region.
He urged party members to strengthen organisational work and maintain close contact with the people.
Referring to challenges faced by the GHADC, particularly salary backlogs and administrative disruptions, the Chief Minister said the state government has facilitated dialogue by constituting a committee to engage with MDCs and employees, following which advance royalty shares were released to clear salary dues and ensure regular payments.
During the programme, the Chief Minister launched the NPP Calendar 2026 and distributed games and sports equipment to various villages as part of the party’s outreach and youth encouragement initiatives.
The meeting was also attended by Marcuise N. Marak, Minister in charge of the Housing Department, Public Health Engineering Department, and Soil and Water Conservation Department; Ian Botham K. Sangma, MLA of Salmanpara Constituency (ST); Subir Marak, MLA of Rangsakona (ST) and Chairman of the Khadi & Village Industries Board and Sanjay A Sangma MLA of Mahendraganj Constituency, who is also the Adviser to the Department of Excise, Government of Meghalaya. Local party leaders and workers were present in large numbers, making the meeting a significant political event in the district.
