Meghalaya’s government has dismissed the request from the All-Khasi Meghalaya Tourist Taxi Association (AKMTTA) to prohibit the entry of outside tourist taxis due to legal constraints as advised by the Advocate General. Despite this, Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar stated that the government is attuned to local taxi operators’ concerns. Following a constructive meeting with AKMTTA, the government plans to engage stakeholders in the tourism sector, such as hoteliers and tour operators, to encourage the promotion of local taxis for visitors. Dhar emphasized the importance of service quality, urging local taxi operators to maintain high standards of vehicle cleanliness and driver discipline. Future discussions are anticipated to enhance tourism, including the development of a new tourism app tailored to improve the visitor experience in Meghalaya.
