Estimated read time 1 min read

The Meghalaya government is enhancing its police and security forces’ operational capabilities to address modern urban security challenges through realistic and scalable training. To this end, it has approved the establishment of two advanced training facilities in East Khasi Hills and South Garo Hills, including an urban warfare training facility at Mawiong, near Shillong. This facility will encompass a range of skills, from close-quarter battle techniques to complex operations such as hostage rescues, building clearances, and the use of urban surveillance systems. The initiative aims to boost operational effectiveness, reduce personnel risks, and improve agency coordination during urban security operations. Additionally, a Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare school will be set up in Baghmara, South Garo Hills, providing specialized training in counter-insurgency and jungle warfare for state police personnel and commando units, particularly benefiting those in challenging terrains.
