The Byatikram Group, in association with The Times of India and Rabindranath Tagore Club, Laban, has announced the second edition of “Remembering the Maestro – S.D. Burman”, slated for November 9 at U Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong. Positioned as a key cultural event in the region’s creative economy, the musical tribute aims to boost artistic tourism and reinforce Shillong’s reputation as the “Music Capital of Northeast India.”

The announcement was made at Shillong Press Club in the presence of Patron-in-Chief Dr. Saumen Bharatiya, Pankaj Deb, senior Byatikram members, and officials. A symbolic 69-member chorus by Bahaar Group will honour S.D. Burman’s 69-year legacy, while Meghalaya Governor Shri Chandrashekhar H. Vijayashankar will attend as chief guest. The prestigious S.D. Burman Memorial Byatikram Lifetime Achievement Award 2025 will be presented to celebrated guitarist Rudy Wallang, following last year’s honour to Assam music icon Zubeen Garg.

Industry observers note that Guwahati’s music fraternity and audiences have shown increasing interest in Shillong-based cultural initiatives, creating a robust ecosystem for talent exchange, event tourism, and collaborative creative ventures across Assam and Meghalaya. The event will showcase leading artists and dancers, and remains open to the public, dedicated to the late Zubeen Garg.
