Medanta has begun construction of its 400+ bed super-speciality hospital in Guwahati. The Bhoomi Poojan ceremony held on October 31 was attended by Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Medanta Chairman & MD Dr. Naresh Trehan, and Group CEO Pankaj Sahni, reinforcing the region’s shift toward high-tech healthcare infrastructure and modern treatment delivery.

The ₹500-crore facility at Sarusajai Industrial Estate along NH-27 will anchor cutting-edge patient care, including robotic and organ transplant programmes, precision cardiology and neurology, oncology, critical care, trauma services, nuclear medicine, and preventive health. The project is also expected to generate 5,000–7,000 direct and indirect jobs, creating opportunities for medical talent, health-tech startups, and allied service providers in diagnostics, biomedical engineering, and digital health support.

Dr. Trehan said quality healthcare innovation should reach every geography, while Sahni highlighted Guwahati’s strategic role in serving over 50 million people across the Northeast and driving innovation-driven care models in underserved areas. Healthcare entrepreneurs and startup voices say Medanta’s entry could catalyse a new wave of medical innovation and health-tech collaboration. With residents often traveling for specialised treatment, access to a nearby innovation-driven healthcare hub is expected to boost tele-medicine adoption, remote diagnostics services, and referral networks, while inspiring emerging medical startups to build solutions tailored to Northeast patient needs.
