The Delhi High Court mandated that Google use its technology resources to detect and eliminate artificial intelligence-generated and fraudulent content on YouTube that exploits the persona, films, and image of Sadhguru Jagadish Vasudev, the founder of the Isha Foundation and a spiritual leader. In the ongoing lawsuit brought by Sadhguru and the Isha Foundation against the widespread abuse of the mystic’s identity on the internet, a single-judge bench chaired by Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora issued an interim injunction.
Justice Arora ordered Google to take action against false advertisements that were making the rounds on YouTube, including one that featured a fake video of Sadhguru’s detention, in accordance with the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. In order to save Isha Foundation from having to flag every incident of infringement, the Delhi High Court requested that Google and Isha Foundation work together to develop a method to stop such content from reoccurring.
Google has been ordered to remove misleading YouTube links featuring fake arrest narratives, following allegations that the company has technological limitations. The Delhi High Court had previously directed platforms to remove fake and AI-generated content to promote financial scams and gain subscribers. However, the Isha Foundation claims that such misleading ads have resurfaced with increased frequency, despite Google’s own ad policies prohibiting clickbait ads based on negative life events. The Isha Foundation urges people to remain vigilant and report any fake advertisements or videos on YouTube falsely claiming Sadhguru’s arrest by flagging them as “scam” or “misleading”.
