Dalal Street traded near the day’s high during the second half of Tuesday’s session, August 2, with benchmark indices gaining nearly half a percent each. This session also marked the first Tuesday expiry for the Nifty 50. By 12 p.m., the Sensex was up 304.20 points or 0.38% at 80,668.69, while the Nifty climbed 105.70 points or 0.43% to 24,730.75. Market breadth was strong, with 2,555 stocks advancing, 1,066 declining, and 107 remaining unchanged.
All sectoral indices were in positive territory. Nifty Energy and Nifty Media led with gains of 1.5% each, followed by Nifty Realty, which rose 1.3%. Nifty Metal, PSU Bank, FMCG, and IT gained between 0.7% and 1.3%, while Auto edged up 0.4%.
Broader markets outperformed the benchmarks, with the Nifty Midcap 100 up 0.7% and the Nifty Smallcap 100 rising nearly 1%. Sugar stocks soared up to 12% after the government lifted restrictions on ethanol production from sugarcane and syrup. Technically, key support lies at 24,400 and 24,000, while resistance is seen near 24,800–25,000, offering potential breakout opportunities.
