Meghalaya government prepares to introduce a new Startup Policy, following seven years of empowering entrepreneurs through PRIME initiative, while engaging in dialogue with entrepreneurs and ecosystem enablers. Planning Department Secretary Cyril V Diengdoh emphasized the need to transition from a grant-led model to one based on innovation, scalability, and market viability at a PRIME Meghalaya Roundtable Conference. Diengdoh emphasized the need for innovative enterprise building, urging for deeper market access, stronger value chains, and effective small business aggregation. The conference’s attendees pushed for more competitive financial incentives, a strong connection with academic institutions, and more assistance for young entrepreneurs addressing problems including environmental sustainability, traffic congestion, and waste management. Agri-tech, tourism, traditional crafts, and digital services were recognized as key growth sectors that require policy assistance and strategic involvement. In order to ensure that the state’s startup ecosystem adapts to the needs of a fast changing economy and the ambitions of young entrepreneurs, officials reiterated that PRIME Meghalaya would continue to play a crucial role in anchoring this transformation.
