The KSU ordered the immediate removal of illegal settlers from the Mahadev Khola temple complex on Thursday, closing alleged unlawful hotels, ashrams, and residences. Illegal building was discovered inside the temple complex during an inspection by KSU’s Upper Shillong and Laban Circle. According to KSU leader Reuben Najiar, the union is in favor of the temple but is against the development of 30 unauthorized homes, hotels, and ashrams. He remembered that in 2023, KSU petitioned the relevant authorities on the issue, and they promised to submit a report within three months.

However, since then, a number of illegal constructions have occurred. He stated that all those residing there unlawfully must be expelled and that the Union will not stop at simply closing the illegal facility. The KSU questioned how residents were given ration cards and EPICs without their authenticity being confirmed, stating that the region is not under the authority of the Lawsohtun or the Upper Shillong Dorbar Shnong.
