High-stakes debate on “Operation Sindoor,” India’s forceful military reaction to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22 that killed 26 people, is scheduled to take place in the Lok Sabha. The Rajya Sabha will consider the issue the next day, while the Lok Sabha will hold its special session on Monday, July 28. The agenda includes a “Special Discussion on India’s strong, successful and decisive ‘Operation Sindoor’,” which follows the fatal attack and entailed precision strikes targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), according to the official List of Business. Both Houses of Parliament are anticipated to engage in a 16-hour debate, with the Lok Sabha’s discussion to be opened by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. BJP MPs Anurag Thakur and Nishikant Dubey, Home Minister Amit Shah, and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar are also anticipated to take part.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected to participate in the Lok Sabha debate and speak in the Rajya Sabha. His anticipated remarks follow the Opposition’s earlier demand that the PM answer immediately, especially because former US President Donald Trump claimed to have brokered a ceasefire between India and Pakistan during the Pahalgam incident. Samajwadi Party leaders Akhilesh Yadav and MP Rajiv Rai will represent their party in a crucial debate on Operation Sindoor with the opposition bloc, led by the INDIA alliance. After a tumultuous first week of the Monsoon Session, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced the discussion will focus on India’s reaction to terrorism.
