With a record 731 students from 101 schools competing in the 31st State Level Inter School Karate Tournament 2025, Meghalaya is seeing a sharp rise in participation and enthusiasm in the sport. From July 24 to 26, the three-day event, organized by the All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association, will take place in the Multipurpose Indoor Hall on the SAI, NEHU campus in Shillong. Enrollment for the long-running event has surpassed 609 people from the previous year, setting a new record.

The competition continues to be supported by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs of the Meghalayan government. Last year, St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School won the boys’ team title, while Sacred Heart Girls Higher Secondary School won the girls’ team title. According to the organizers, the state’s increasing interest in and commitment to karate at the school level is reflected in the rising number of participants.
