Trump Claims ‘5 Jets Were Shot’ In India-Pak Clash

Former US President Donald Trump has sparked controversy by claiming that “five jets were shot down” during the recent India-Pakistan conflict following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which left 26 dead.

India launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ targeting terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Speaking at a private dinner with Republican lawmakers, Trump said, “Planes were being shot out of the air… I think five jets were shot down.” However, he did not specify which country’s aircraft were involved or provide evidence.

Trump also claimed the US defused tensions using trade leverage, stating, “We said, ‘You want a trade deal? Stop throwing weapons around,’” and credited the US with preventing escalation between the nuclear-armed neighbours.

India, however, dismissed Trump’s claims, maintaining that the situation was resolved bilaterally, without foreign intervention. Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, involved coordinated strikes by the Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy.

India insists no fighter jets were lost, and Air Marshal A.K. Bharti confirmed on May 11 that all Indian pilots returned safely.
