An important turning point in CWSSU’s academic development was reached on July 11 with the organization’s inaugural Academic Council Meeting. The council authorized syllabi, ratified Boards of Studies in a number of areas, and issued important regulations. 15 PhD programs and 21 undergraduate programs were approved with curricula covering a wide range of subjects, including the humanities, social sciences, commerce, regional languages, and the sciences. Assamese, Anthropology, Biochemistry, Botany, Chemistry, Education, Economics, Commerce, English, Environmental Science, Garo, Geography, History, Khasi, Mathematics, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science, Social Work, Sociology, and Zoology are included in the list of approved disciplines.
The curricula were developed at a meeting of the relevant Boards of Studies in June 2025. According to the Registrar, these curricula were developed in compliance with the National Education Policy 2020 principles, which support an inclusive, multidisciplinary, and outcome-based approach to education. Marak went on to say that the meeting is a crucial step in implementing the University’s academic structure, which will benefit both its internal departments and institutions seeking to associate. Following the Council’s passage of important legislation addressing admissions, fee structures, service conditions, and affiliation criteria, CWSSU’s first academic year started in 2025–2026.
