With a mission traveling to the state to establish long-term trade relationships, Lulu Group International is promoting Meghalaya’s organic and GI-tagged agricultural products in foreign markets. By signing a Memorandum of Understanding in November 2023, Lulu Group International and the Meghalaya State Agricultural Marketing Board made it easier to export GI-tagged ginger, pineapple, and Khasi Mandarin by air and sea. The group discussed raising farmer incomes, improving export infrastructure for long-term success, and broadening access to international markets with Meghalaya’s Chief Minister, Agriculture Minister, and departmental secretaries. With a focus on using Meghalaya’s distinctive agro-climatic conditions and traditional farming methods to build a strong global brand, CM Sangma promised government backing for the collaboration.
Sangma is dedicated to Meghalaya’s distinctive GI-tagged and organic produce and is determined to bring them to international markets. They place a strong emphasis on optimizing investment efficiency in order to increase the amount of international products. For its agricultural products, especially those with GI tags and certified organic status, the Meghalayan government has started direct export routes. It made it possible for Guwahati Customs to export Khasi Mandarin to Dubai via air cargo for the first time last year. With the successful shipments of Khasi Mandarin and pineapple as well as the maritime shipping of organic ginger, the state government of Meghalaya has improved its export infrastructure, cutting down on turnaround times for farmers and foreign purchasers.
