To curb the spread of deadly zoonotic diseases like rabies, the District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department, Sivasagar, in collaboration with the Sivasagar District Administration, Sivasagar Municipal Board, and other partners, launched a ‘Free Anti-Rabies Vaccination Drive’ starting July 9. The campaign focuses on protecting human lives and ensuring animal welfare, particularly targeting the street dog population, as stated in a press release by the DIPRO, Sivasagar.

On the launch day, 38 stray dogs were vaccinated in key and densely populated areas including Babupatty, Central Market, and Thanamukh, ensuring a strong initial outreach. The department is continuing the vaccination efforts to prevent rabies transmission and promote a safer environment for all residents. The initiative underlines the importance of coordinated community efforts in public health and animal care, aiming to reduce the risks associated with rabies and create a healthier, more secure living space for both people and animals.
