Estimated read time 1 min read

According to Meghalaya Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister AL Hek, the state government is actively constructing specialized animal check posts and quarantine centers in the districts of Ri Bhoi and West Garo Hills to prevent the illegal movement of animals. Hek says the check post’s construction will soon be completed. Nidanpur in the West Garo Hills and Narang in the Ri Bhoi district are the two sites where the work is presently being done.

Regarding claims of illegal animal transportation into the state, the minister demanded that the department give merchants who bring cattle into the state veterinary certificates. Any illegal activity should be prohibited; it must be carried out with the correct documentation, checked, and delivered to the state of Meghalaya. He clarified that the responsibility for monitoring these violations rests with the appropriate Deputy Commissioners.
