Tribhuvan Sahkari University Bill to reshape India’s cooperative economy: IFFCO

The passage of the Tribhuvan Sahkari University Bill, 2025, in the LokSabha on March 26 marks a major policy shift in India’s cooperative sector. IFFCO, the world’s No.1 cooperative, has welcomed the bill, stating that it will strengthen rural economies, foster entrepreneurship, and equip cooperatives with skilled professionals.

Union Minister of Cooperation and Home Affairs Amit Shah highlighted that the university will serve as a center for innovation, leadership training, and research in cooperative governance. Dr. Udai Shanker Awasthi, Managing Director, IFFCO, called it a historic move that will professionalize cooperative management, while IFFCO Chairman Dileep Sanghani emphasized its role in expanding India’s cooperative sector from local to global markets.

With over 8 lakh professionals expected to be trained annually, the university is set to redefine cooperative policies in India. International Cooperative Alliance Director General Jeroen Douglas hailed it as a significant step in strengthening the global cooperative movement, reinforcing India’s leadership in cooperative economic policy.
