NPP wins 13 out of 29 seats in JHADC elections, emerges as single largest party

The results for the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) elections were declared on February 24, with the National People’s Party (NPP) winning the highest number of seats. The NPP won 13 seats, emerging as the single largest party in the council.The newly formed Voice of the People Party (VPP) made a significant impact, securing 8 seats in its debut election.

Besides, the United Democratic Party (UDP) and the Indian National Congress (INC) each managed to win 3 seats, while two Independent candidates also secured victories.With no party securing a clear majority in the 29-member council, the focus now shifts to post-election alliances and negotiations. The NPP, being the largest party, is expected to initiate talks to form a ruling coalition.
