The District Library Auditorium in Mynthong, Jowai, Meghalaya hosted a curtain-raiser event to reveal the official mascot and theme song for the 6th Meghalaya Games. Sports Minister Shakliar Warjri unveiled the theme song, “Niom Beit Naphang,” and the mascot, “U Kiang,” which honor the state’s rich cultural legacy, unity, and sportsmanship. While the mascot, “U Kiang,” represents the bravery and tenacity of a liberation warrior and reflects the tenacity and strength of Meghalaya’s people, the theme song, “Niom Beit Naphang,” embodies the spirit of cooperation and sportsmanship.
John Kharshiing, the working president of the Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA), and Wailadmiki Shylla, the local MLA and chairman of the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA), were among the prominent figures that attended the event. Representatives from the state, local government, and community also underlined Meghalaya’s commitment to sports development. Warjri described the government’s plans to upgrade athletic facilities in colleges and universities, guaranteeing that these spaces will benefit local communities and educational institutions long after the games are done.
The government’s goal of enabling athletes to succeed at the state and national levels was also conveyed by the minister. Warjri assured the crowd that the state will continue to support the development of athletic potential. Following the ceremony, MLA Shylla, Warjri, and other organizers went to a number of sporting sites to evaluate the level of preparedness for the next National Games. The audience was mesmerized by the Elev8 Tribes Choir’s stunning performances of two songs as the program came to a close.
