SWITCH Mobility Ltd, a subsidiary of Ashok Leyland, has unveiled its two new electric city buses, the SWITCH EiV12 for India and the SWITCH E1 for Europe, marking a significant step toward sustainable urban transport. The SWITCH EiV12, India’s first low-floor city bus with chassis-mounted batteries, is equipped with a scalable battery capacity of over 400 kWh, making it an ideal choice for efficient city commutes.

Launched by ShriNitinGadkari, Minister for Road Transport and Highways, the bus offers improved passenger comfort with seating for 39 passengers, advanced safety features, and easy access for differently-abled individuals. In addition, the SWITCH E1, designed for the European market, features cutting-edge in-wheel motors and a triple-door design for smoother passenger movement.

The India electric city bus market is expected to grow rapidly, with an estimated CAGR of 21% by 2030, making SWITCH Mobility a key player in this shift towards greener public transport. For Shillong, which faces mounting traffic congestion and environmental concerns, the SWITCH EiV12 presents a much-needed solution. With a focus on reducing carbon emissions and enhancing mobility, the city could see improved air quality and more efficient public transport, making it a promising market for SWITCH’s sustainable buses.
