Jorhat MP Gaurav Gogoi has requested Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to reevaluate the proposed elevated flyover project on AT Road. The proposed flyover, which would link Baruah Chariali and Bhogdoi Bridge, has drawn criticism from nearby companies and citizens. Concerns regarding the project’s effect on local shops were specifically raised by the Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha. The “most of the banks, government and private offices, and places of worship would remain on the road under the proposed flyover,” which might result in significant traffic congestion and operational concerns for everyday commuters, presents additional obstacles for the project.
Although inhabitants of Digholi Pukhuri had already voiced their worries, Gogoi pointed out that “the repeated protests by the people of Jorhat regarding this flyover have been completely disregarded.” After a previous correspondence in September 2024, this is his second plea to the Chief Minister. The MP has called for a project halt for reevaluation, highlighting the necessity of a solution that strikes a balance between community interests and infrastructure development.
