Khliehrangnah village in Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya won third place in the Best Village Panchayat category at the 5th National Water Awards 2024. This highlights Meghalaya’s achievement with community-driven water management. President Droupadi Murmu attended the award ceremony, which was held at Vigyan Bhawan. Union Minister CR Patil handed out awards to 38 winners in nine categories including best state, district, and urban local body.
Gunanka DB & Lamluti Langstang accepted the award on behalf of Khliehrangnah. It is part of the World Bank-supported Community-Led Landscape Management Project. CM K Sangma applauded the community’s efforts to manage water sustainably and emphasized the need of government-community partnerships in resource management. The National Water Awards acknowledge excellent handout to water resource conservation and management throughout India, advancing the country’s aim of water security.
