Heroin worth 4.5 crores found in Karimganj; four people arrested

Drugs worth nearly Rs 4.5 crore have been seized and four persons were arrested from Karimganj district of Assam on Sunday, a senior official said. According to Karimganj SP Partha Protim Das, who led the operation, a vehicle coming from Mizoram was intercepted at the Chewali Beel area after getting a tip-off from a source. “A thorough search led to the recovery of 548.82 grams (48 soap boxes) of heroin from a secret chamber in the vehicle.

We also apprehended four persons in this regard,” he said. Das said the vehicle was registered in Mizoram and was coming from Aizawl, and necessary legal action has been initiated. Delhi Police’s special cell dismantled an interstate narcotics network, seizing 4kg heroin valued at Rs 16 crore from a truck originating in Manipur. Animesh Sarkar, a key member, was arrested near Mayur Vihar DND toll plaza. The operation revealed Sarkar’s involvement in heroin trafficking from Myanmar through Manipur to Delhi and other states over the past three years.
