Assam distributes over four lakh Soil Health Cards to farmers to enhance soil quality

On Monday 7, the Assam government began distributing Soil Health Cards (SHC) to nearly four lakh farmers across the state. At an official occasion in Guwahati, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the government will distribute around 10 lakh SHC cards, with four lakh already available for distribution. “Our Krishak bandhus serve as anchors in our Atmanirbhar Assam mission. Today, I’m launching numerous programs in support of our farmers,” he added.

According to Sarma, the state’s number of soil quality testing laboratories has expanded from five to 26. In addition to the distribution of SHC, agricultural machinery was given over to farmers, and agriculture knowledge centres were opened by the chief minister in the presence of Agriculture Minister Atul Bora. “We are in the process of setting up 816 rural agricultural equipment banks. Previously, there were just 80 such banks in the state,” Sarma remarked during his speech. He also stated that the government will establish 96 agriculture knowledge centres and 93 agriculture development offices.
