Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma conducted a review meeting in light of the flash floods that have wreaked havoc throughout the state, particularly in the South Garo Hills and West Garo Hills districts. Floods and landslides have occurred in the Dalu area of West Garo Hills as a result of the state’s persistent rains since Friday midnight. Meanwhile, the plain belt sections of Gasuapara in South Garo Hills have been severely impacted, with a bridge also washed away. On the other hand, the chief minister of Meghalaya has announced ex-gratia for the next of kin of three people who died in Dalu as a result of the accident.

To guarantee that relief efforts are carried out in the affected parts of the state, Chief Minister Sangma urged the administration to seek government aid. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team is conducting search and rescue operations in the area. Meanwhile, road links from Dalu to Baghmara and other locations have been blocked due to repeated landslides, prompting the Meghalaya Chief Minister to instruct the administration to find alternative routes to restore road connectivity in the Dalu-Baghmara area.

Furthermore, the chief minister ordered the reconstruction of wooden bridges that had been swept away and destroyed by the rain, recommending Bailey bridge technology for the job. Bailey bridge technology is a truss bridge design that is modular and prefabricated, allowing for quick construction and transit. During the review meeting, CM Sangma stated that all wooden bridges in the state had been identified and would be replaced with new ones. Officials also stated that electricity will be restored in most parts of the region by today, as directed by the chief minister, with the goal of easing public life and ensuring proper relief operations.
