Guwahati will have two IITs join a study to address urban floods caused by stormwater entering the city from Meghalaya’s hills. The focus will be on diverting stormwater to Silsako and Deepor beel. The state government has already contacted a Dutch team for the task, and IIT Guwahati and IIT Roorkee will also conduct the study.
A plan will be ready within three years, and a joint expert committee will be formed to include officials or experts from both states. The Meghalaya government has also proposed this.
