On World Biofuel Day 2024, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) reinforced its commitment to sustainable mobility by advancing biofuel technologies as a cornerstone of its carbon neutrality strategy. As part of Toyota’s global aim to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050, TKM is championing the adoption of Flex Fuel Vehicles (FFV) and Flex Fuel Strong Hybrid Electric Vehicles (FFV-SHEV) in India.
With India’s crude oil imports soaring—21.4 million tonnes in April 2024 alone—TKM is positioning biofuels, particularly ethanol, as a key solution to reduce dependency on fossil fuels. The country is on track to achieve 20% ethanol blending by 2025, potentially saving over ₹30,000 crores in foreign exchange and cutting more than 20 million metric tonnes of carbon emissions.
In Itanagar, TKM’s biofuel initiatives resonate with local aspirations for economic resilience through sustainable practices. The focus on ethanol production is expected to unlock new opportunities for the region’s agricultural sector, driving economic growth and supporting the shift toward cleaner energy.Vikram Gulati, Executive Vice President of TKM, highlighted biofuels as integral to India’s energy security and environmental objectives, underscoring TKM’s leadership in the move towards a sustainable future.
