New Delhi warns Indians living in Lebanon Indians are prohibited from visiting this West Asian country unless necessary. Ismail Haniya, the political head of the Palestinian armed organization Hamas, was recently killed in the northern part of Tehran, the capital of Iran. Israel is believed to be behind the killings, although it has not claimed responsibility. In this situation, it is feared that Iran and its backer, the Lebanese armed organization Hezbollah, may launch a counterattack on Israel.
On the other hand, 12 children and minors were killed in a rocket attack on the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights on Saturday. Israel and the United States claim that the attack was carried out by the Lebanese Hezbollah group. Israel has also warned them. Israel’s wartime cabinet also held a separate meeting on how to attack Lebanon. All in all, a group of diplomats believe that a multifaceted conflict has been created in West Asia.
The new guidelines issued by the embassy in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, said not to go to that country unless there is a special need. Even Indians living in the country have been advised not to step out of their homes unless necessary. Apart from that, Indians have been asked to keep in regular contact with the embassy. “All Indian citizens are advised to exercise caution,” the embassy statement with an emergency phone number and mail ID read. Like India, the embassies of America, Britain, and Australia have also issued the same advice to their citizens.
A statement released by the Indian Embassy in Beirut last week said, “In view of the recent situation in the region, Indians living in Lebanon and those planning to visit the country are advised to exercise caution.” Being in touch with the Indian Embassy in Beirut is being asked to continue.”
