Toyota Kirloskar Motor drives ‘Green Wave Initiative’ with Miyawaki afforestation

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) is bolstering its environmental commitment through the ‘Green Wave Initiative’ during this year’s Environment Month. As part of the Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050, TKM distributed over 7,000 saplings to employees, advancing its goal under the ‘Establishing a Future Society in Harmony with Nature’ challenge. Employees are actively engaged in planting and nurturing these saplings, promoting community involvement in green initiatives.

Since adopting the Miyawaki Method of Afforestation in 2009, TKM has transformed 112 acres of its Bidadi facility into a biodiverse ecosystem with 790 native species. This method, known for its carbon sequestration capabilities, has captured 30.86 tons of carbon per acre, contributing significantly to environmental restoration.Mr. B. Padmanabha, Executive Vice President & Director of Manufacturing at TKM, emphasized, “Our sustainability efforts, guided by Toyota’s Global Environmental Challenge 2050, reflect our commitment to integrating environmental responsibility with our corporate mission.”

TKM’s Ecozone, a 25-acre environmental learning center at its Bidadi plant, serves as an educational hub for environmental conservation, attracting over 42,000 students and stakeholders. It showcases dense forests cultivated using the Miyawaki Concept across various forest types and thematic parks.In Shillong, TKM’s environmental initiatives have garnered positive attention among local stakeholders and consumers. The market welcomes TKM’s proactive stance in promoting sustainable practices, foreseeing benefits for local environmental sustainability and community engagement.
