Imtiaz Ali’s Jab We meet has become a cultural touchstone, inspirational many young women to hold their genuine personalities, like Kareena Kapoor’s character Geet in the film. During the latest edition of Expresso, Taapsee Pannu, who was in college when Jab We Met became a hit, talked about the film’s impact on her and how Kareena’s character Geet was one of the usual picture-perfect heroines. It was a recent change.
Taapsee said that, “The level of consistency for an actress was never this high for someone like me at that time, because here I was seeing everyone looking extremely perfect, well dressed and talking in the perfect manner, everything that is necessary.” Should be said that in the right way. And Geet was someone who was so relatable because she was so unfair but that’s why she was so tolerant.”
He further added, “She is so politically incorrect in many situations that the relatability of that heroine was so high. That’s why I made it a part of my pop culture and it attracted audiences like me. It asked me, ‘Yeh kisne banaa hai (Who has created this?)’ To make such a character lovable is absolutely strange, so the intrigue and knowing the brand called Imtiaz Ali and keeping an eye on his work. ,
Jab We Met tells the story of a vivacious young woman, Geet (Kareena Kapoor), who encounters depressed, heartbroken Aditya (Shahid Kapoor) during a train journey. After they both miss their train, Geet brings Aditya to her hometown Bathinda, Punjab. However, after eloping with her lover Anshuman, Geet realizes that Anshuman no longer loves her.
