Assamese film industry makes bold move into Hindi market with ‘Kooki’ national release

Critically acclaimed Hindi film Kooki is all set to release nationally on 28th of June 2024, the film has touched a sensitive topic and narrating a journey of a rape victim. Directed by Pranab J Deka , the movie revolves around   the multiple stages and mental trauma  a victim goes through.

This strategic shift towards producing a Hindi-language film reflects the industry’s ambition to expand its reach beyond regional boundaries and gain recognition on a national scale. Dr. Junmoni Devi Khound, the producer of “Kooki,” emphasized the importance of showcasing Assamese cinema to a wider audience, leveraging Hindi’s status as a widely understood language across India.

With an overwhelmingly Assamese crew comprising 98% of the team, “Kooki” serves as a testament to the industry’s talent and collaborative spirit. Featuring actors, singers, and musicians from both regional and national levels, the film exemplifies a fusion of storytelling heritage and technical expertise.
