MakeMyTrip’s latest announcement of India’s travel trends offers a comprehensive glimpse into the shifting preferences and habits of Indian travelers, from spiritual sojourns to last-minute getaways.The report, drawing insights from the travel searches of over 100 million active users, underscores the evolving dynamics shaping the nation’s travel landscape. Rajesh Magow, Co-founder and Group CEO of MakeMyTrip, emphasized the significance of understanding these emerging behaviors to drive innovation and cater to evolving demands in the travel industry.

Key highlights from the report include a remarkable 25% surge in the number of individuals taking more than three trips per year compared to pre-pandemic levels. Notably, tier-2 and tier-3 cities are increasingly embracing spiritual journeys, witnessing a 97% growth in searches for destinations centered around religious spots.The data also reveals a notable shift towards family-centric travel, with a 64% surge in family bookings in 2023. Additionally, the preference for spontaneous travel is evident, with 46% of domestic flights booked less than a week before departure.

Payment preferences are also evolving, with UPI emerging as the most favored payment method, constituting nearly 40% of all transactions.With city-specific insights provided for Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad, the report serves as a valuable resource for industry stakeholders and travelers alike, guiding them towards tailored and informed travel experiences.
