Meghalaya:’On Saturday, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma officially opened a number of projects in the Babadam neighborhood in the West Garo Hills region. The State government provides full funding for the Garo Hills Agro Food Park, a project of the All Garo Hills Multi Purpose Cooperative Society (AGHMPCS) at an estimated cost of Rs. 15.73 crore.
Additionally, the Chief Minister lay the groundwork for the P.A. Sangma Shopping Complex in Babadam and opened the Arecanut Processing plant. Additionally, he praised the cooperative society for encouraging farmers’ collectives to launch rural businesses.
According to Sangma, the goal of his administration is to assist farmers who work in horticulture and agriculture.
He claimed that the administration has pushed for crop planting throughout the State in order to improve inputs, packaging, value addition, and produce marketing.
He said that assistance will be provided to farmers and growers to help them advance their businesses.
Every year, 100 MT of raw product, including mustard, cashew, ginger, and areca nut, will be processed at the recently opened Agro Food Park.
The Chief Minister stated, “In the last six years, 166 processing units, 154 warehousing facilities, and 34 cold storages have been set up covering the remotest conner of the State,” in reference to the government’s assistance to quadruple farmers’ income in the State.
To help the rural economy recover, he said that the government is supporting and encouraging Integrated Village Cooperatives, Farmer Producer Organizations, and Women’s Collectives.
“In the whole Northeastern region, some of our processing units are the finest and best,” he continued.
With the Agro Food Park at Babadam proving to be a successful model, the Chief Minister anticipated that other sections of the State will follow suit.
