Following the publication of a news release on social media regarding the once-dreaded Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) reuniting in Garo Hills, the state police have opened an inquiry.
As the press release went viral, social media was a flurry of activity, as people searched for the veracity of the allegations. A Goera Pantora Sangma, claiming to be the chairman of the GNLA – Regroup, the group’s new moniker, signed the release.
According to the press release, on February 7, 2023, the GNLA underwent restructuring.
The organization has presented a list of resolutions that it wishes to see implemented in the area, some of which include the application of ILP, the Garo Customary Laws, programs for the impoverished, and the abolition of corruption.
“I am not sure if this report is accurate or not, but 24 hour police is prepared and proactive,” he stated, adding that the intelligence report has been reinforced.
“There are police present. Give it to us. We will not permit regrouping, and it will not occur,” he said
