Thousands rally at USTM for launch of Meghalaya Smiles Campaign, aims to transform lives of children with clefts

The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) and Smile Train organized a spectacular launch for the Meghalaya Smiles Campaign, captivating the hearts of over 2000 students at the USTM campus in 9th Mile, Khanapara. Founder Chancellor of USTM, Shri Mahbubul Hoque, extolled the university’s inclusive ethos, celebrating the collaborative spirit that unites diverse communities. “USTM stands as a beacon of support and inclusivity,” he proclaimed, highlighting the significance of the Smile Train partnership.

Anjali Katoch, Head of Communications and Business Development at Smile Train India, expressed gratitude to USTM students for their potential in fostering community understanding. “Engaging with USTM students holds immense potential in gathering essential support for free surgeries,” she remarked, emphasizing Smile Train’s commitment to ensuring timely, safe, and quality cleft treatment.

Dr Werlock Kharshiing, Smile Train Partner Surgeon and Chairman of Woodland Hospital, Shillong, provided insights into their 17-year collaboration. The Meghalaya Smiles event, featuring quizzes, games, Phawar performances, a flash mob, and the screening of ‘Smile Pinki,’ showcased a vibrant blend of awareness and fundraising, illuminating the path toward transforming lives impacted by clefts.
