Meghalaya is known to be one of the most literate states of India that has consistently showcased strong public awareness concerning the significance of eye care. Despite geographical challenges faced by the state that have prevented residents from getting their hands on the advanced eye treatment facilities available in other regions, a noteworthy development has taken place in recent time.

From January 2024, Shillong residents in Meghalaya will have access to exceptional eye care infrastructure, thanks to the Government of Meghalaya’s initiative to integrate private healthcare providers with health insurance schemes. The Retina Centre, a super-advanced eye hospital in Guwahati, Assam, has been enrolled under the Meghalaya Health Assurance Scheme, allowing individuals to access advanced diagnostic facilities and eye examinations without additional expenses. Dr.S.U.Ahmed, Senior Consultant & Founder, The Retina Centre, stated, “As a prominent eye hospital in Northeast India, we are pleased with the aim to reach out to people with any eye conditions. We express our gratitude to the Meghalaya Government for this opportunity.”

The Retina Centre, a leading super eye specialty hospital in Northeast India, provides affordable eye care services to remote residents, diagnosing and treating common and complex eye diseases. The government of Meghalaya has enlisted the centre under health assurance schemes.
