A man was arrested in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district and 2 kg of gold worth around Rs 1.42 crore was seized from him, officials said on Friday. Customs officials intercepted a van carrying gold at Diengpasoh in Assam.
Customs authorities at the Mangaluru International Airport seized 969 grams of gold worth Rs 60,07,800 from three passengers aboard an Air India Express flight from Dubai. The gold was cleverly hidden under the soles of the shoes worn by the two passengers, as well as inside chocolate boxes and packets of bedspreads.

DRI seized 7.1 kg of gold worth Rs 4.5 crore hidden in electronic equipment belonging to Majid Sheriff, Shabana and another passenger at Chennai airport. The trio arrived on an Emirates flight from Dubai, carrying an electric oven, drilling machine and another piece of electrical equipment. Gold hidden in dismantled machinery was found. Customs officials also seized 1.7 kg of gold from passengers at the airport.
