The 75th anniversary of the Declaration of Human Rights was celebrated in Shillong

The Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) celebrated the 75th year of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) on International Human Rights Day 2023.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma was the chief guest and Law Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh was the guest of honour.

Sangma called on lawmakers and defenders of justice to act with responsibility and passion so that everyone lives with dignity and respect.

The second session began with an opening speech by the Chairperson of the MHRC, Justice T Vaiphei, where he emphasized the importance of upholding and protecting human rights values ​​in all corners of society and the role of public servants in protecting the human rights of the Citizens and common people at large.

The session was also addressed by distinguished speakers Arun Kumar Singh, Associate Professor, Law Department, North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) and Amit Kumar, Advocate General, Meghalaya High Court.
